Energy-Efficient Home

You will enjoy a home that complies with the standards of the Agence de l’efficacité énergétique du Québec’s "Novoclimat" program, and which is inspected and verified by government engineers.

The requirements of the Novoclimat standard:

  • Reduce thermal losses through enhanced insulation.
  • Maintain good air quality through the installation of an efficient ventilation system and the selection of healthy materials such as wood.
  • Improve the comfort of occupants.
  • Promote the durability of the thermal shell.
  • Introduce a control procedure for the quality of the thermal shell through the use of infiltrometry.
    • Infiltrometry is a technique used to assess a home’s energy efficiency. The procedure is to reduce the home’s pressure with a fan which depletes the air, allowing outside air to enter through the unsealed openings or the cracks of the home’s structure. Then, we make sure the house is properly ventilated.
Chart of minimum "R" values for the Novoclimat standard
Exposed components R
Roof 41.0
Above-ground walls and nosing 24.5
Foundation walls 17.0
Above-ground floors 29.5
Basement floor 5.0
Slab-on-ground 7.5

* The "R" in the table refers to an insulation unit. For instance, according to the Novoclimat standard, the roof must have an insulation of at least R41.

Besides being built with healthy and formaldehyde-free components, your home will be equipped with high-quality doors and windows. A heat-recovery air exchange system is installed and an eco-friendly latex paint is used.

In short, all our homes comply with the Novoclimat standard which ensures energy savings through a better insulation and improves air quality with the installation of a heat recovery air exchange system.
